Stop Light Staying on

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Stop Light Staying on

Post by DeltabluesB3player »

Hi I am a newbie around here.
I bought a "V" reg 1999 model 406 Exec HDI and it drives really well and I really love the car.
However it has the following faults:
1. When I open the central locking via the Remote Key Fob, the STOP sign flashes on the dashboard along with the EMS light and ABS light. There is also a beep.
These go out apart from engine managment light when I start the car and it drives perfect. :?
When I switch the ignition off, the same lights previous ly mentioned do the exact same but go out after a couple of minutes. :?
2. The Speedo and Rev Counter do not work but someone mentioned to me that this might be a bad connection on to the gearbox.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Oh BTW the fusebox layout in the handbook is completely different from the actual one under the steering column and there are a couple of fuses missing, whether they should be or not??
Cacn anyone email me a copy of the right fusebox layout including what fuses are what? :)

Hi folks the plot thickens with this one. My cousin who is a bit of a whizz with auto electrics checked the car over and lo and behold some numpty has removed the OBD connector and cut the wires feeding this.
Can anyone advise me where the wiring should run to from the OBD as I am looking into getting an OBD connector and loom from a breakers yard?
I bought the car at auction and this type of thing is how auctions and some traders get a bad rep. :(

Can't really help with the OBD connector - heaven knows why anyone would want to cut it off though!?

Speedo - I put my money on the dry joints on the speedo PCB. Take it out and resolder everything. If it was the sensor on the gearbox, you would still be getting rev readings I believe.

This sounds familiar but searcing through the forums I've only come up with the old wet driver's footwell business (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4859&p=47765&hilit= ... top#p47572 & viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4230) , which I didn't think applied to a semi-mux D9. Or does it - worth checking?

Thanks guys and sorry for delay due to health issues.
The speedo issue turned out to be a mixture of earth in the footwell and speedohead unit problems.
Renewed the earth by taking off and cleaning throughly and then replacing. :D
Also managed to buy complete dash head unit on eBay for £25 so happy with that.
Never got to bottom of why someone would cut the OBD cable though a mechanic suggested it may be to get the EM light out and keep it out but this worked the opposite.

Thanks for your help guys :D
