loud rattlng noise from behind glove box[ deisel 406]

hello when l start engine l get a loud ratting noise from behind the glove box area
it lasts about 20 seconds and then all is ok --l think it is a relay but dont no what to
look for--[ tried to remove glove box took out 4 srews but no luck in removing box]
any ider-s what it could be -and how to remove glove box [406- 2001-deisel] any
advise welcome

Hi there. The recirculation flap motor has probably stripped its gears (they're good at that ) - viewtopic.php?f=17&t=18045&p=178537&hil ... v*#p178537

I can't find anything definitive on removing the glovebox but from memory you need to push the two plastic hinge pins out and there's also a bastard to get to screw up behind it towards the side of the car.

You could also try dropping the blower motor into the footwell and checking for anything catching the blades. You could even wedge it against something while it's on the deck and put the ignition on to see if it's spinning freely. Just make sure there is nothing close by that could catch in the fan- especially fingers as it may jump about a bit !!!

Alternatively pull the pollen filter out and you can see the fan but it's more fun watching it dance on the floor

There are only 3 bolts holding it in place which are relatively easy to get at, but I must say my flexi ratchet screwdriver set comes in very handy for jobs like that, best tool I ever bought!

when it stops raining [ have noticed the noise starts for about
5 seconds now when l press on windsreen demist]

I have a feeling I should do a How-To for removing the glove box (my motor's packed up again ) but I'd don't think it'll be much use as mine's lhd

thanks for the info -managed to disconected motor with out
removing glove box- your advise was spot on pulled out conector
from air circalating motor noise gone wish l had found this site earlyer-
as with in the few weeks of owning 406 had a few funny problems the last one cost
me £150-[wich l could ill aford as we are all not rich farmers down here]---speedo stopped working- but when pressed brake peddle it did
local garage gave up after several hours baffled so in the end rewired the brake
stop switch the old way not going thought the car system and all works fine so l live and
learn -thanks
