can you fit a trip computer in a 1998 1.9 td estate ?
hi was wondering if it is possible to fit a trip computer to my 1998 peugeot 406 ?
Re: can you fit a trip computer in a 1998 1.9 td estate ?
On the coupe forum there is a how-to on installing the D8 trip computer. So yes it is possible, if you can find the parts.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

I don't believe the 1.9TD Bosch HP fuel pump ECU transmits any injection rate information, unlike the Lucas ECU on the 2.1TD.
See this thread for how I retrofitted to a 2.1, worth having a look for the required cables perhaps:

Im doing the same project. I just got the MFD but also need the stalk with the button that controls the functions on the MFD.
Good luck with it!
Good luck with it!

thanks guys and that guide is help full i was also thinking if i can not retro fit perhaps i can get a aftermarket trip comp there are a few on ebay and amazon ect im aware there is a compatability issue with obd 2 connector but i have found a adapter lexia 3 30 pin connector i was wondering would this be enough to get the car to communicate with trip computer or will i have to install a wire from ecu unit to register fuel info ? and good luck with youre project
let us know how you get on

You what?
People usually do that the other way around so they can run them on mazola... You'd also need the Lucas EPIC pump and a deal of other sensors as the Bosh is largely mechanical, while the EPIC is pretty much all electronic. Did you have any luck with the obd adaptor? The code on the wire should be the same for all cars, perhaps you could check for it. Or find a schematic for the ecu, I certainly wouldn't bother with the aftermarket stuff because if the ecu doesn't put any of this stuff out they'll be a waste of money.

Here's a pinout for the 30 pin connector. Remember this is not OBD2 compliant, the adaptor cable does not give you a true OBD interface, it's purely a physical adaptor and will only have K-line support (rather than all the protocols required by OBD2), and that support may (probably will) be incomplete.

In theory I think it would be possible to transplant the Lucas EPIC system onto a 1.9, but as Steve says, I don't think anybody has ever tried this since it's more common to put the Bosch pump on the 2.1 so that it can be run on veg oil.
Has anyone had a 1.9 on PP2000? If it's capable of showing live fuelling information then the data must be available at the 30-pin diag port, though I don't think the K-line protocol in use on these cars has ever been documented (at least I can't find it).

ah okay i see hmm maybe i should have a look at what wires are what and see if i have the right one ect if not i can live with out the trip computer lol i had a look at the diagnostics port and it is a 16 pin plug other than that i havent a clue.
i thought that with after market dont want to be wasting my money ill have a look at ecu and wires and see if there is any way of getting a fuel reading if not i shall just have to lump it
i have pulled the coin tray out and it does have the connector
for the top like explained in 2.1 guide just got to see if its got wire 1365. if not i suppose i can source the display and get atleast some functions

Interesting, I'd've thought your car would have the older 30 pin port. Would you mind posting a picture of it?
Yes, you could fit the trip computer and would at least have average speed, distance travelled and temperature readings, though retrofitting the temperature sensor is a complete pain in the backside (it goes in the passenger wing mirror). Others have retrofitted it to somewhere easier to get the cabling to. I decided to put mine in the wing mirror and it took hours!

...but I can't remember what it displays.

I was genuinely surprised how sophisticated it is, as it does show injection timing, (requested and actual), which I think it deduces from the crank and needle lift sensors, but I don't think it 'knows' exact injection volumes, (can't see how it could)?
Unfortunately my 'tame' 1.9TD is off wild boar hunting in the Midi Pyranees at the mo.....

Interesting, sounds like there's a chance this would be doable. In this case it might be worth having a look for wire 1368 in your car, just in case.Doggy wrote: I was genuinely surprised how sophisticated it is, as it does show injection timing, (requested and actual), which I think it deduces from the crank and needle lift sensors, but I don't think it 'knows' exact injection volumes, (can't see how it could)?
