Cheap headlamp bulbs

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Cheap headlamp bulbs

Post by Doggy »

Grab yourselves some of these from Sunday: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/sp ... _27439.htm

If, like me you do 8-10k a year with your headlights on, you'll be used to changing a bulb seemingly every few weeks through the winter. Last year, I did a spot of preventive maintenance by fitting 4 of these in October and had no issues at all until one went in late September this year. Bear in mind it can cost you 2/3 the price of a complete set of these for a single bulb if you have to get one in a hurry.

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I've just (yesterday) spent the best part of £27.00 on two Philips X-treme Visions for mine

In their defense they do appear to be very good (Autoexpress winners 2012).

Reminds me of a thread I was making..........

Agreed, but did you know the life expectancy of these lamps is only about 10% of that for normal ones, (and they're only something like 1200 hours).
(Did have some data sheets a few years back to confirm, but can't seem to locate them now).

I bet they only last that long if you don't actually drive the car.

My last set of Osram Wallet-breakers lasted over 12 months of being 'on' for 8000 miles (Volvo trait). They seem to have addressed the life time problem (a bit) they were much better than the previous set anyway.

Time will tell on these Philips ones (Welly managed to touch the lens getting one of them out of the stupid you-can't-get-in-but-if-you-do-I'll-cut-your-fingers-to-shreds Packaging) some judicious wiping with nothing more than my Coffee breath and a piece of Kitchen roll saw them mounted up and switched on within minutes :supafrisk:

Yes, they seem to have improved, but look at these: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/H7-Osr ... ULTH7.html

and yours: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/H7-Phi ... -pair.html

I know what you means but the problem I have is my projector lenses are rubbish with 'normal' bulbs and the long-life ones burn less brightly so it's a compromise over having some idea about where the ditch is or saving some pennies :|

If you've got projectors, can't you go HID?
