to conserve battery power when there is i drain on the battery, the bsi goes into economy mode, it disables all electrical devices except the starter motor, once the engine has been started it reverts back to normal

I've only recently discovered economy mode too, it was a bit anoying because I had to start up my cold engine and shut it off just to clear it, then it happened again later, I reckon it's aroung 30mins.
Have you not noticed that if you leave the doors open for a while the interior lights turn themselves off!
Have you driven off with the handbrake on yet? try it!
I once changed the 'language' settings to see how the warnings translate!, the Italian for 'handbrake' is quite funny

On my D8, the radio used to switch itself of after about 1 hour. Interior lights would stay on forever if thedoor was left open
On my D9 Coupe, the radio gives 30 mins (not enough if you ask me), and the interior lights go off after a while of the doors being left open. This also stops the electric seats, so before people can get in the back, you'd have to start the car.

The other annoying thing I find is having to 'reset' the auto windscreen wipers when you get back to the car, why doesn't it know it's still bloody raining?
Whilst on topic, is it me or can you not use the seat heaters unless your arse is actually plonked on the seat? Many times I have left the car running in the morning and the cabin heater has come on but the seats are still cold.

Well welton, I've got a couple of answers for you (at last I know something useful!!)
The rain sensor deactivate in case you get in the car and the wipers are stuck to the screen with snow/ice (at least that's what it said in my mates BMW handbook).
The heated seats I know what you mean, but I think it's a case of the heating element is working, but as your arse isn't pushing the leather down onto the element, it's not warming the actual seat.
Does that all make sense??

I find the economy mode a bit ironic really.
I was the car,
The radio goes off due to "economy mode",
I get in the car, start and stop the engine,
I carry on washing car and listen to the radio again,
So basically, in th good old days, I'd have the radio on for a couple of hours no problem. Now I have to cause extra drain by starting the car every half hour.

I've noticed this as well as I spend quite a lot of time sat around in the car... I had it the other day where it activated after about 5 mins of radio which was quite worrying as the car only just managed to start (you heard it struggling to turn and was slow!)
I think its a pretty good idea as it'll save you having to bump start...
I need a new battery me thinks!

checked battery last night and its a fully sealed cr@ppy looking type.... what i also noticed was that the -neg terminal had lots of oxidisation on it which maybe the reason it hasn't charged much due to the poor connection.
I think I'm just gonna get a new battery put on as it looks like the original and I've got plenty of camping missions and the likes coming up so need something half decent!

I think I'd rather go fetch the stereo than push start the Pug on my own!
On the subject of D9 quirks, I notice if you stand on the brakes the hazard lights come on ("look at me, I wasn't paying attention!"). I also have automatic headlamps. Wow, cool, neat-o etc. But we have to drive with our headlamps on by law all day anyway
I did have them on auto but I had an early start last week, when I left it was still dark so they came on but when it got light they turned off. Of course, I didn't notice and could have got nicked. Useful.

stick black tape over the sensor on the dash board, it will then think its dark all the timesteve_earwig wrote:I think I'd rather go fetch the stereo than push start the Pug on my own!

I think the sensor on the dashboard is summat to do with the climate control. The one for the lights is combined with the one for the auto wipers in the windscreen up by the mirror (it is on mine anyway).
Check in the handbook that there isn't a fuse position or computer setting or something for keeping the lights always on? I know if you get really stuck you can deactivate the auto-lights then just get into the habit of turning them on every time you start the car.
