Tow bar woes

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Tow bar woes

Post by Nightshade »

Evening Chaps,

Today was a cold day spent fitting a tow bar to my d8 estate. It was a slog of bad fitting parts crappy instructions and bolts that were 2 threads too long and needed hours of painstaking cutting down with a blunt hacksaw.
Regardless, it's on. However, only half the wiring is done. I've been having trouble locating the feed for the fog light and wondered if anyone could help me out.
Everything else connects to the outer parts of the light clusters, however the actual fog light is on the inner part of the light cluster - the bit that rises with the boot lid. I can locate the feed at the back of the light cluster but am struggling to follow it back into the boot. Having removed the panels in the back of the estate that allow access to the rear of the lights, I can see wiring running down the floor of the boot and into the rear lights. The loom continues vertically up the side of the car, which I had assumed ran under the trim and to the boot lid, but I can't seem to find the right wire for the fogs by checking with a test light.

Any ideas chaps?

Hi, I have a 2.0 HDi90 03 plate, I also had problems fitting Tow Bar Electrics last year.
I do have details of what I eventually connected and also it works as some miles of caravan and garden trailer towing have proved.

Will happily post what I eventually found and connected if of any use to you, I am well aware Pug are VW like in wiring looms different to the darn Manuals.

I am surprised fitting the tow bar was a chore,as for the wiring I used a tester that pierces the cable, and from memory turned on the foglight and used elimination to find which one it was ,hope this helps ps mines a 1997 too
