B.S.I. WHERE IS IT ?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Dairees will be able to tell you where it is on a 206. Don't know if it's in the same location on a 406.

The Bsi unit can be found under the dash, below the fusebox by your right knee. I know beacuse I have a fault with my wipers.

From memory it has six or seven fuses on it, and about ten connectors going to it.

It basically controls all the body functions of the car, ie lights, windows, wipers etc along the lines of a 'Network'.

Now here's the rub.

A new unit has to be programmed by the dealer to suit your car, you can't just go to a scrap yard pull one out and slot it in. Your local dealer will want about £350 + lab for a new reprogrammed unit.

However I have found a company in kent (bba-reman.com) that will repair your current unit for £125 quid.

Hope this helps

Bring back old fashioned wiring !!!!!

Actually, I heard somewhere that due to the number of electricals on modern cars, manufacturers were looking into running car electrics at 48 VOLTS in the future, that'll be interesting

Why on earth would they want to do a thing like that? WTF runs off 48vdc without stepping down to 12? I call BS on that - supercomputers only run off +-12v! The only place I can think of that it'd be handy to raise the voltage would be for silly stereo amps, and that'd just be to lower the current...

James, where's this CAN coinnector on the HDi. I've got a CAN code reader and it doesn't work when I connect it to the connector inside the car. Does this mean I have to connect it to somewhere under the bonnet?

CAN is not a connectort
CAN is Controller Area Network
its how the wiring is all made up on all new cars, the whole car is basically a network, there is are 2 high speed high priority networks, the engine bay network and the airbag network, then there is the low speed low priority network in the passanger compartment, as its a network everthing in the car is linked together in a chain, peugeot call CAN multiplex
the idea was too cut down on wiring
your CAN code reader can read the fault codes stored in the network not just in engine ecu or airbag ecu for example, but you may not be able to read the network faults on your coupe as its semi-CAN and basically everything goes through the BSi

Thanks for that James. At least my reader works on our 206, just can't get it to link with the coupe.
