No Dipped Headlights!

I've seached the forum but I appear to be the only person to have suffered this problem. Basically I have no dipped beam. full beam OK. I tested for power at the bulb (brown wire I think) and nothing there. As an emergency fix I reversed the connector on the bulbs and used full beam (which lit the dipped beams if you follow me) to get me home.

Any ideas what this might be? I am guessing it's the stalk switch or is there a relay involved? if so, where is it?

Is it easy to change the stalk switch on a D8? I'll try and find one from a scrappy if it is easy to do.

any suggestions?
