Q: How to perform a continuity test on an ABS sensor

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Q: How to perform a continuity test on an ABS sensor

Post by Sonia406 »

Another question for the folk in the know here.

How do you perform a continuity test on an ABS sensor connector plug?
Sorry about the picture but I have this multimeter:

I know which one checks the battery, but it all looks a bit too complicated for me to understand.

I want to establish if the sensor is OK and good - and if at all possible I want to check the car side connector box, as the were exposed wires out the casing prior to the connection box, as I say - car side.

Many thanks in advance

On the dial between the 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions you have the resistance settings.

Select the first one (9 o'clock) that says 2000k - the display should say something (open circuit, no continuity). Touch the probes together and the displat will read 0.00 (short circuit, good continuity)

Continuity test is simple - touch the probes to either side of the ABS sensor plug as per Lozz's link (say that quickly a few times!) if you get a number or zero then there is continuity, if the display does not change there is no continuity.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.
