Air con fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Air con fault

Post by Windows »

Hi there. I have a problem with the air con. It is a 1998 406LX 1.9 diesel. On pressing the air con switch the green light comes on but no air con. When driving along the road cool air comes out of vents, when stopped warm again. After a while it seems to work but not every time. When it does work I noticed the two fans in front of radiator are turning. Could this be a relay fault? If so where is the relay? When working the air con is ice cold. Sometimes it works as soon as switched on!

Sounds like the blower motor to me, does it work if you crank the speed up?

Hi there. No, makes no difference if I crank up blower speed. But I have noticed that the two fans infront of radiator don't turn when air con is at fault, but turn when air con is working ok. Also when working and you switch off the engine there is a jet engine slowing down sort of noise, which doesn't happen when not working. Many thanks for your help

So the blower is working then?

If memory serves my D8 GLX's air con worked on a temperature sensor in the interior light cluster, might be worth pulling it apart and cleaning any dust out but be careful the plastics get brittle over time around the light.
