Battery changed in key fob - now nothing

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Battery changed in key fob - now nothing

Post by Waxman »

Hi All

Central locking working ok, went to lock the car just now and it wouldn't lock.

thought I'd change the battery ( new correct style/number replacement ) in the key fob ( key style shown below )

Just changed the battery and now the LED does not light up when you press it and it does not operate the central locking.

( the LED was flashing red with old battery, so tried the old battery again and nothing - not even LED flashing )

Key still opens the door manually ok and starts the engine ok

Thoughts / Help ?

I know you have to re-sync the key to the car when the battery is changed otherwise the car doesn't recognise it, but the LED should be doing something anyway.
No disrespect, but is the battery in the correct way round?

^^ Thx

The car still recognises the key ok - i.e it starts it

Battery replaced the same was as I saw it '+' facing upwards.

New battery tried and old battery tried but no LED flashing ?? - As I said, prior to opening key it was flashing...

- SOLVED -

Big fat fingers here had pushed one of the battery terminals down ( so not touching circuit board )

tweaked it back up, closed key & light started to flash - Woop

So done sync in car and now working ok.

lol

A self fix!
Just for info, the electronics in the fob are only for the locking/alarming of the car. The immobiliser chip in there is separate and passive (ie not battery powered) so as you found out, you can start the car but can't unlock it remotely. 8)
