Auto lights doing my head in!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Auto lights doing my head in!!

Post by jonny81191 »

How do I completely disable the automatic headlights? If I turn the stalk to the sidelight position (after disabling the auto function), the inner set of dipped beam lights come on for roughly 10-15 minutes, then go out. This happens day or night, and is really starting to get annoying.

If I turn the stalk to the dipped beam position, then both sets of lights come on, blinding everybody, until the 10-15 minutes is up, at which point the inner set goes out.

The main beam works as it should.

Thoughts?

Hi, mine were the same.
First the headlights would come on as you turn the knob - then after a couple of corners the auto-headlights cut in and turned them off, then on, then off - depending on whether or not I indicate...!!
I couldn't keep the button pressed to disable them as they would re-enable themselves after a few seconds, then turn the lights off...

I used PP2000 in the end to disable the auto lights from the BSI/ECU. I still get the annoying flashing green headlight on the dashboard but if I tap the stalk it stops for a minute or so...

Uzi, 9 mm.

As Kelv says, you need PP2000 to disable it - had to do the same on my first 406.

So it would also appear that no matter what settings I use, the rear lights go out after a minute or so. The only way to get them to come back on is to turn them off and back on. :x

Settings? Is this with pp? Do you mean the tail lights? That's not very safe

Nah I mean if the auto lights are on or off, and if I use sidelights and or dipped beam. I'll try pp later.

So I've tried every combination under the sun to get PP to talk to the car, and it just won't. This is now fast becoming a dangerous issue as I can't get all the way to work without the lights turning themselves off.

I'm considering ripping the whole lot out and fitting a stalk from an older model, then rewiring all the lights to make them work properly.

Before I do that, does anyone have any idea how I can solve this nightmare?

Doesn't a long press on the left hand stalk button toggle the auto lights?

Always off for me!

What's the state of play with PP?

On mine if I turn the stalk to any position other than off then the auto lights don't do anything, so I'm wondering if this is a fault with the auto lights or some sort of mux fault, maybe with the com...

Pp simply won't talk to the ecu. At all :(

Really stumped here, the auto lights seem to be working, but the inner set of dipped beam and the tail lights are just turning themselves off at random.

What about covering the light sensor so that the car thinks it's dark all the time? maybe the sensor's duff? wherever it lives?
