Radiator Fan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Radiator Fan

Post by llewe22 »

I hope someone can help, I've recently purchased a second hand fan but the wiring is different to the original, the old one has a 4 wired plug but the new one one as a 2 connection fitting. Any suggestions on how to wire this in would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks in advance
Peter

Could we have a bit more information please? What car is it? What year is it? Which engine is it fitted with?

Did the replacement fan unit come from a vehicle of the same year/engine type?

Unless it's had an engine transplant, no it isn't! The 1.9 diesel was in 406s from 1996-1999, from 2000 onwards it'll be either a 2.0l HDi (90 or 110 bhp) or a 2.2l HDi (136bhp).

If you want to PM me the VIN number, I can check for you.

In my experience only a 4 wire fan unit will fit,the fan doubles up as a condenser fan for the A/C and has a speed regulator built in to the back of the motor, good used ones are like Hens teeth and new ones are over £300. :( The part number you need is 1253E4

Ah, the mux fan.
Best bet is to look for later cars being broken.
I picked one up for a fiver; the guy thought it was bust since it doesnt come on when uou apply power. They used to be permenant live which caused fires and had to be recalled.

(Thanks for the opportunity to share my fan knowledge again :cheesy: )

It was modified, umm, twice since then, this is the last version (like what mine is) which costs something like 250 quid from Pug. After my experiences with my D8's fans wearing out I have a saved search going but that one won't ship out here, hence posting it on here in case it's of any use to someone.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
