A/C on when starting car

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

A/C on when starting car

Post by Waxman »

Forgive the Q as there may be an obvious answer.

Every time I start the car the heater/blower goes straight to A/C mode. Not needing A/C on, I always have to turn it over to normal fan mode (demisting windows etc)

Is there a setting to control this or does it have to be done through PP ?

Thx

No, they just randomly do this. There's no pattern to it and seemingly no 'cure'.
Practice the Gallic shrug and operating the a/c button without looking.

Yes bit of a daily routine, I think it may be linked to outside temperature (assuming you'd like the windscreen demisting).

They all do that sir.... I think we concluded (a long time ago :? ) that it does it if there's a big difference in what's set and what the temperature actually is. Or something. Dunno. Anyway, there is the thought that condensation doesn't just form on the inside of the screen, it'll also form on other cold parts, which would include the electronics inside the BSI, so maybe it's best to let it do it's thang. Unless it bothers you, small drop in mpg, drying out your contact lenses, making your doughnuts go stale...

if you park it under sun or in hot weather, BSI automatically keep the A/C on position with outside air intake mode when you start (ign on) next time.

Used to switch off A/C couple of minutes before I enter the driveway in my D9 executive, and next day morning I always had to manually switch on A/C.

That's what I thought.
But check AC off was always part of the standard start-up sequence.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Indeed, IIRC, goes like this, (D9, full-mux, manual)

Ignition on
Cancel l/h indicator
De-clutch, select neutral
Cancel l/h indicator
Engine start...
Cancel l/h indicator
check AC off...
release handbrake, (optional).
