Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Fuse keeps blowing

Post by jasper5 »

I have a problem with a customer's car that my electrical guy is trying to sort out but is a bit stuck atm, hopefully you electrical experts might be able to help out....

Car is a T reg 1999 Automatic RFV engine...he was driving along when engine cut out, RAC guy found number 2 fuse is blown and blows instantly a new one is fitted.
Number 2 fuse covers immobiliser, coolant level, powers steering, instrument panel, ignition positive, gear interface, etc.

Any ideas? Could it be connected to footwell stuff?

In a situation like this, you have to narrow it down somehow.
From your description,
Number 2 fuse covers immobiliser, coolant level, powers steering, instrument panel, ignition positive, gear interface, etc.
Disconnect anything non-essential, see if it still blows.
Assuming it does and you're down to the last two, separate them and feed each via a slightly smaller fuse
If that doesn't lead you to the answer, report back and I'll scratch my head some more....
