2000 com stalk repair?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

2000 com stalk repair?

Post by steven123 »

Turn indicator on its last legs wondering if someone tried to repair them? Is it possible or full replacement is only option? Happy new year!

There was a guy in Bradford who advertises on eBay. Jasper5 has been to him in person. I can't seem to find him.

Although I did notice that the price of a COM2000 is a fraction of what it was a couple of years ago. (Be careful though because you need the right one.)
I also noticed this ad which claims to be a replacement for the bit that breaks.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

This seems to be the guy selling the replacement for the part that wears out (apparently) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121241781565 It looks like you'll need to know if your unit is DAV or Delphi (mine was DAV) and be prepared to do a fiddly job...

Windows 7tm 64bit operating system
INTEL Core i3 3225
ASROCK Z77 PRO4-M
KINGSTON HyperX KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX DDR3
COOLERMASTER SILENCIO 550
250.0 GB WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Blue WD2500AAKX SATA3
Logitec wireless keyboard and mouse
THOMSON TG782
Hrvatska Telecom MAX ADSL

Is my point made or do I have to get the ban hammer out?

I have just repaired mine - I would say it is not a job for heavy handed folk but quite doable with a little care. Things to watch out for are not to be too rough on the clipped pivots, and do not bend the contacts on the stalk - Although I had to make minor adjustments to the momentary main beam contact.

Also on reassembly make sure the auto return spring (straight shown in picture 01) is the right side of the lip. In the photo below it is the wrong side so no auto return! And, make sure when putting the cover back on the comm2000 to line the shorting strips so that they are on the right side of the airbag pins, otherwise you will not be able to plug the airbag wires back in to the comm unit..

Just to add though - these replacement parts have clearly been made using a 3D printer and not moulded! Not sure what that means in the way of life span I doubt as long as the original. Use plenty of grease!
The repair works very well.
