help lost my one and only key
my d8 2.1 diesel only came with one key and today ive been cleaning my car and the wifes and somewhere along the line the metal blade has fallen out of my key.now the car is locked on the drive apart from the bonnet which is open.so if I don't find the key what are my options?
iam sure that even when/if I get in I cant just replace the barrel as its chipped so any ideas help please?
ps if you don't want to post because of the subject matter please pm me

ouch!
Presumably your key hasn't got central locking, so you used the key to lock the doors? Get something small and a torch, and check the door barrel - see if your key blade is there.
Apart from a really contrived approach to reconstructing a diagnostic socket from various lines in the engine bay, then using PP2000 to do a central locking/window test (*IF* the right VAN bus line is available there), I can't think of another way in - you'll need a locksmith, 90's car thief, a brick and a new window, or you can take your V5 to a dealer who may be able to get you a new key in exchange for an awful lot of money.
As for where to go from there, get a new set of barrels+keys 2nd hand, and transplant the RFID tag from your current key. If you open up your key (what's left of it) you'll see a small rectangular jobbie about 4x2x0.5mm if memory serves(?) which you can just switch to the new key to keep the immobiliser happy

Re: help lost my one and only key
MJB is right - you still have the important and more expensive part of the key which is a kind of blessing...
Are you a member of the AA / RAC etc as they have special airbag type things to get into a car legally and without much damage should you need to get stuff out in a hurry.
My missus broke the only key to our Picasso in the lock, which was a pain as the child seats and buggy were locked in there and although we could use my car, we had no child seats.... pfff
Went to a local locksmith who scanned the Picasso transponder information to get a new key cut and coded - all for £15..
Lastly, check the drive at night as the key will reflect the torch beam, maybe..?

Re: help lost my one and only key
You can take one of the door locks into a locksmith, not timpsons mind,
A locksmith can make you a key up by using a profile gauge,

Re: help lost my one and only key
These pug barrels are as hard as nails mate
To get one out with no key you would have to be brutal,
End result would be buying more than just the barrel,
Easiest/cheapest option here is locksmith,
If imob /chip was lost too then scrapyard parts would be the way,

Re: help lost my one and only key
If you can't get your old barrel out without serious damage to the column or surround - can you simply plug the new barrel and transponder in, but let it hang down somewhere out of sight?
The locks on my donor car were quite easy, but you will need to be gentle with the scrapyard one so you know how to be gentle with your car....
Don't forget the boot lock too....

Omega, in case you missed it, this would appear to be the solution to your problem. Cheap, and no messing about replacing locks.lozz wrote:You can take one of the door locks into a locksmith, not timpsons mind,

Since you can't get in, I'd suggest phoning round some local mobie locksmiths and asking them if they can do this making a key from a lock trick
