Anyone have a spare 'plip' key?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Anyone have a spare 'plip' key?

Post by GingerMagic »

As many of you people are aware, I bought a Picasso for the missus about 6 months ago. Its a good car but not without faults which are gradually being sorted out.

My next issue to tackle is the fact that the Picasso didn't come with a remote key - but I'm sure it did when it left the factory... So, does anyone have a spare or unwanted remote key? I'm not sure what shape the fob would have been but as it doesn't have a comms unit I guess it is a semi-mux?

I want to see if I can program/sync a remote key to work the locks only - I can mess with the transponder etc at a later date ( I will probably just tape the old transponder to the ring to make spare keys cheaper.. ) I'm thinking I can put the 'spare' remote key next to my non-remote when its in the ignition to re-sync it?

My local Picasso breaker, Mike, says this won't work and I have to go to Clitroen and spend £120 on a poxy key

I would like to prove him wrong... 8)

I don't think you can reprogramme an old existing remote to a new car.

Kelv, if you want to let me know the VIN i'll check the Citroen version of Servicebox to see what it should be, you should be able to reprogram a remote to it without much fuss

Thanks fella, I will take a look in the daylight.

What is the Clitroen equivalent of Service Box called? Maybe I could sign up to that too.

If you put the VIN in tomorrow and search for the key you should see in the schematics exactly what key type and part numbers are for that car, as you say it's semi-mux i'm guessing it's a teardrop key but should let you know for definate

picasso has the same key as Xsara car, its a flip key 4 button iirc,

ask over on the xsara forum, someone on there might have one spare,

If you have or can get the 4-digit key code and have access to PP2000 (well, same interface, different software - "Lexia"), you should be able to do what I intend to try with the missus' C5 which doesn't have a spare remote key:

Get key(s), with new blades cut to match the locks
Go to the immobiliser ecu configuration in Lexia
Select the entry for new keys
Enter the 4-digit code
Follow the prompts and insert each key
Done. Just re-sync the remote central locking via the usual ignition on, hold button procedure

Seems to be the same method as on 406s

There's quite a few picasso models which inevitably means several different keys depending on model/age. I wonder what compatibility's like... When I grow the balls to try the above on the C5 (which uses a 3-button oval keyfob), I might try seeing if I can get one of my old 406 keys to work
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Just a side note, but I never, ever managed to get a second remote key to pair with my 406, despite trying several different ones with different chips on them. I have also yet to hear of anyone managing to pair a second hand key to a fully mux on here despite several trying...

Doesn't mean it wont work on the Citroen though. :|

+1!! ^^
Mines a half mux though, with RF 1 button key.
Got the blade cut, transponder coded, new battery, but the remote will simply not pair up!!
I have tried many procedures but I havent tried PP2000 yet, don't know the 4 digit code, only the key code (Letters and numbers one).
I had a look on YouTube or something and it looks like PP2000 wouldnt even help me though.
