406 2.2HDi 2002 Imobilised
Hi folks,
Hope someone can help me here, before I tear all my hair out...
Yesterday afternoon I went to get something from the boot of the car, unlocked the car with the remote key, all doors unlocked except the boot.
So spent a couple of minutes fiddling the key in the boot lock and it opened. Shut the boot and tried to lock the car and all locked and unlocked just fine. So I thought nothing more of it.
Came out to go to work this morning, pressed the unlock button and nothing happened...
Opened the door with the actual key and the indicators started flashing, the MFD shows ''Going into power saving mode'', the key in the square imobiliser light is on on the dash and the button between the seats for the internal sensors is flashing.
I tried a BSI reset with limited success as the windows will not open and I had to sit in the car.
After a time the imobiliser light goes out but as soon as you try to start the engine it comes back on.
I have tried both keys I have and the fault is the same with both.
Any advise or solutions would be welcome. I have gone through pages of similar faults on the forum, but none seem to have all the same elements of my problem.
Fingers crossed....

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.
If that doesn't work try turning the ignition on for 5 seconds, off for 5 seconds, repeat this about 5 or 6 times.
Unless someone else has a better solution this would be my starting point.

Did you get your PP2000 working?
If so, can you get the ignition on / talk to the car?
Can you tell if the engine ecu says it's 'paired' and 'unlocked'?

Regretably I still have not got a PP2000, the money set aside for that was consumed by another bill that was unforseen

This is going to sound crazy but two people on the Coupe forum tried this within 48 hours of each other and it worked both times:
"What he asked me to do was to disconnect the battery, turn the key in the ignition as if I were starting it - hold for 10 seconds, switch off, switch on - hold for 10 seconds, switch off. Leave for 3 minutes then reconnect the battery.
The indicators flashed as if I'd used the fob, I walked round to the drivers door with a somewhat unhopeful demeanour, looked at the omni-present immobiliser light and it was off! As was the engine management light. She turned over perfectly and the fob is working again!"

It may not help, but check the fuses in the engine bay, I managed to blow one of mine when using PP2000 to test the cooling fans (which we shorted out) with the rather strange result of the immobiliser light coming on and it refusing to start.

Well the situation has not improved, I tried Nutski's solution, but no joy.
While I was out at work today I popped my head in at an autoelectrician's and he seemed to think the cure was easy enough in exchange for £150'ish....
But I don't really want to fork out that much if possible.

Re: 406 2.2HDi 2002 Imobilised
For a problem with the immobiliser, it's usually either the ignition barrel aerial or the BSI forgetting the key and needing re-programming with PP2k and the secret code. This is consistent with:
What's confusing me here is that we seem to have remote locking and the immobiliser light being related. For a problem with remote locking, it's usually the battery in the key and/or the key needing re-programming (instructions in your handbook).MixMan wrote:After a time the imobiliser light goes out but as soon as you try to start the engine it comes back on.

Well I have made some progress.....I have had the carpet up in the drivers footwell and it's a swimming pool, drilled an escape hole, mopped it and now have a hair dryer and fan heater on the go. I have cleaned up the plugs down there, but the BLUE one seems worst affected, I am not sure if a wire has come detatched. I dont suppose anyone has a pic of an intact one?

I agree rwb, this is why I asked this question on here, even though certain parts of a similar story have been covered before......
I am baffled with this.

I can read some numbers, used a magnifying glass, but some are impossible to read........I want to shoot the person who had this idea, whats wrong with colour coding.......I mean a pink wire goes in one plug and comes out the socket grey.....FFS

I can understand that there just aren't that many different colours available but if the number's missing for whatever reason then we're screwed
Can you list some of the numbers so I know which circuits to look at? Also, I'm guessing an RPO of 9300, I don't think it matters that much unless it's wildly out but is it close?
