306 rev counter issue.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

306 rev counter issue.

Post by GingerMagic »

Hello everyone, just thought I would ask here for some advice ( no joy on the PeugeotForum.. :( )

I have a 306 XUD which I have had for 13 trouble free years but it is being sold at the weekend. My rev counter hasn't worked for 3 years but I thought I would check it out before selling the car.

The rev counter works for the first 5 mins every day, then its a bit up and down for 30 seconds then thats it - nothing working until the next day....

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

its most likely the sensor on the gearbox (the one you couldnt find) thats what it was on our old 206 and the 306 did the same, it would work sometimes but not others.

Umm, isn't that for the speedo?

I thought the rev counter was run by the ecu, did you try re-seating the connectors on the back of the clocks?

If its an XUD engine there is a TDC sensor on the flywheel end of the cylinder head, its very difficult to see and get at but it has a two pin connector just above it which you should be able to see, these very often develop a poor connection, if you pull at apart and push it together a few times it may cure it. You should find it at the top of the bell housing at the bottom of the head.

Only a guess, but if it works for a while then packs up, I would look for a problem with the tacho itself. Probably getting warm and failing because of physical problem with circuitry, or a connection getting hot and failing.
