2000 406 estate folding mirror problems

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

2000 406 estate folding mirror problems

Post by Ady1985 »

My 406 has folding wing mirrors but the only way I found out is when I tried to manually fold them in, the motor kicked in and folded both in then back out again. There is no swith inside to fold them in so I'm assuming they should just fold in when I lock my car and back out when I unlock my car (like my mams 407). Any ideas on a quick fix to this?
Thanks in advance

Is there a white dot on your electric window switch? If so the mirror knob will rotate 180. to point to it and the mirrors should fold in.

If you have no white dot then the switch was probably replaced with a standard one at some point.

It would be on the switch on drivers door, between the mirror knob and the window switches. If you type in ' 406 executive window switch ' you may see an example of the dot.

Chances are your original one went wrong so a standard one was fitted instead - exactly the same apart from the dot.

I forgot to say the 406 mirrors dont fold when you lock the car Luke newer cars do. There is a post online about how to modify the wiring to make them fold when you lock the car, but it isn't straightforward, not to me anyway......

They are hard to find, the ones with 2 switches ( one in front of the other ) are for a Coupe.

Not much on eBay at the moment....

Can I not modify and take the mirror switch out of a coupe and put in my current housing?
