Buzzer for indicators when towing.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Buzzer for indicators when towing.

Post by clarkey1984 »

My 2.1td has a buzzer that lets you know your towing indicators are working, which works perfectly fine, apart from id need to drive while at the same time have my head in the boot in order to hear it. :P

It has a witter towbar and electrics which looks to have been there since the car was new, and although i have had a look with the caravan attached, i cant find out where the buzzer actually is, it sounds like its somewhere high in the right corner of the boot tucked away, is there a standard place such a buzzer would be fitted, or is it just a case of whoever fitted it would have put it wherever they thought best.

And lastly, once i do find it, would there be anything stopping me from chopping it, lengthening the wiring and relocating it somewhere better, im thinking under the dash, probably in the little hidey hole where the long dead immobilizer keypad is, as ill be able to hear it there, and i may also stick an LED in there somewhere as well so i can see it as well as hear it.

Many thanks in advance :)

There is nothing to stop you lengthening the wires and fitting LED. As to finding it, all you can do is keep looking. Mine is hidden and I can't hear it. I don't need an annoying buzzer to tell me I have my indicators on, the green lamps on the dash already tell me. All the buzzer does is tell you they are on, not that they are working. (I know this because I had to change a bulb, and I left them on. I could still hear the buzzer with the boot open while I changed a failed trailer bulb.)

Oh I see, mine must be set up differently then as mine beeps only when the caravan is connected and the bulb is working, which is how I found and cured a dodgy right indicator circuit on the van,
I thought that the primary function of the buzzer is to let you know if connected lighting is working.

On mine, the beeper only worked with my left indicator when trailer my was attached - this is how I found the dodgy connector in my right indicator, which would only beep on occasions.

I too think the beeper lets you know the indicators are okay, and the trailer is still attached.....

Me too, both my bro's 406's and my old estate only beeped when the indicators were working.

This is right :cheesy: ,
As others have said it'll only beep when your caravan/trailer is hooked up & the indicator bulbs are working.
My best guess is it'll be cabletide or stuck to the area where your bulbs are replaced on the off side rear cluster (That's where I put mine :cheesy: )
 , Hook up & indicate & stick your head in the boot & just keep pulling stuff out till you find it
All the best DDD.
