only one key

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

only one key

Post by Puggy2 »

Hi all just bought a 2002 HDi Estate it only has one solid key it opens the car by the lock, all central locking is working it starts the car but 3 times now when I go to start it a key appears left hand side of dashboard and the engine turns over but does not start I have to get out lock & unlock the car and then it starts. Is it possible to get a remote key from ebay and program it?

Sounds like the car not seeing the transponder intermittently.
First I'd check the chip itself isn't floating round inside the key as that's the easiest thing to check (little black oblong).
If that's all ok whip the cowling off from around the ignition and make sure everything is secure with no loose connections.

Could be the transponder ring around the barrel - I believe it can be temperamental before going wrong completely.....
