AC compressor

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

AC compressor

Post by NinoB »

Morning pug gurus..1. I realized that my compressor turns on 30seconds and turned off 20seconds..which is very annoying the period of turning on and off is too short depite the car is cooling..2..sometimes if I on the AC it makes a sucking sounds from the blower before it start cooling..3.. Meanwhile sometimes if I on it the compressor keep struggling to turn on, it takes like 20seconds b4 it pick up..please any suggestion on what is the problem? Is it shortage of gas or my thermostat or what???

My limited knowledge of AC systems tells me that the compressor won't kick in at all if gas is low or if the thermostat is telling it it's not needed.
If it's not kicking in when needed I'd check the electricals to the compressor first, could also be a sticky clutch which could be tested by applying 12 volts to it and see if it engages.
I'm sure some more knowledgeable forum members will be along shortly.

Is cooling and the compressor kicks on but what disturbed me most was the time intervals( on and off) it pisses me off ..why will the compressor will be on lessthan a minute and goes off all within a minute..I dunno if someone is experiencing thesame issue with me?

Is your radiator fan working? It should be running whenever necessary to keep the condenser pressure down, if it can't control the pressure it will disable the compressor instead.

I think I might be having the same problem with my air con, but yet to try a re-gas.....

I meant that I should have MY car re gassed and then see if has improved, but perhaps my car is suffering the same symptoms as yours.

Don't know much about gas types, but is it R134a?

No doubt someone more knowledgeable on these things will correct me if I'm wrong....

Good luck

The compressor will spend a certain amount of time on,then it will switch off for so long, then back on again. This i belive is to stop the pump/compressor from over heating. My a/c also makes a sucking noise from the face vents when switched on.Always has done.If you have nice cold air coming out,i would`nt worry about it.If its low on gas, then the system will still work, but the cooling effect from the vents will get worse, untill the system still works, but no cool air comes out from the vents. After that, once the gas level gets to a very low point, the system will not switch on or work at all.
I know this, because i had this last year,& i had it sorted 2 months ago,& its done the same now.Its been into a/c specalist today for a drain & leak test,& i have a leak from the condensor rad.
