406 over revving

Post by wobs »

ive seen this is a common problem on pugs so checked a few forums the first said simply take idle valve out of carb and clean i did this and cleaned butterfly and all of inside of carb popped back together and turned over it sat at 850 rpm all seemed fine went for a drive again all seemed fine but the next day after feeling pleased with myself it started revving to 3 grand at standstill in neutral,i will admit that ive never changed the ht leads or plugs etc although im not sure these affect the tickover i just thought ht leads when they break down cause a missfire same with plugs i didnt take the potentiometer off carbs can this cause the over revving ? i read that other people had changed the idle valve, ecu and any other thing they could think off but it made no difference???? HEEEEELLLLLPPPPP im going to burn it soon
oh i discovered today that if i catch the revs before they rise above 1500 rpm by turning on the fan the heated rear screen and lights it falls to a 1000 rpm and sits there weirdly???
another thing i should mention is that the resistor went in my heater fan so i took it out to replace resistor and when i put it back i wired it up wrongly and it still came on full so i just rewired and it worked fine
