Brake light fuse...

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Brake light fuse...

Post by Ady1985 »

Retro fitted cruise control (which switch permantly shows active) now fuse number 11 I think it is blows all the time as soon as brake pedal switch goes switching left hand and boot spoiler brake lights out completely leaving me with right hand brake light ONLY.
Disconnected boot and left hand lights and still pops fuses as soon as brake pedal pressed, any ideas? I have custom made a master cruise control switch next to obd port and I have disconnected that in the attempt to get it working again but still no joy -.-

If the right brake light works normally (on and off), then there's no problem with the switch. (I take it you're referring to the brake light switch and not the cruise cancel switch.)
It sounds like somewhere between switch and left hand brake circuit, you have a dead short to earth. What else was done when retro fitting the cruise? If your wiring was pulled about a bit, you may have trapped a wire somewhere....

The only wiring I've pulled is the brake light switch but the top brake light, left brake light and cruise and brake light switch all run off the same fuse which is popping all the time now, time to go and chase some wires I suppose [emoji52]

In that case, disconnect the cruise wiring completely from the fuse. If your brake light operation then returns to normal, you've narrowed down the fault to the newly added cruise circuit and gives you something to aim at.

Right, disconnected everything even down to all brake lights, fuse still pops, put 10 a in number 3 and number 11 and it pops number 3, keep fuse out of 11 and keep it in 3 and it works fine just no left hand and high level brake light, stripped high level brake light out and redone wiring on that and cleaned earth up on boot under spoiler, still doing the same so atm I only have the right hand brake light working. Also replaced brake light switch too.

I'll sort out my sig lol.

It does have a tow bar, I fitted and wired it all up a while ago and have even towed on it with no issues, you reckon with cruise control been active this could be causing problems?

Been to auto electrician, sorted it, ended up been a fault on the high level brake light, when sorted it stopped popping fuses and it came on very faintly with the edge leds been out so must be that that's causing problems so . anyone has got a high level brake light kicking about for an estate?

Isn't it part of the tail-gate spoiler?

I'll check my shed, but I think I may have a Silver one, and I've still got the blue one on donor car...
