Engine ECU fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Engine ECU fault

Post by gray »

Hey folks
The car finally spit out a code for me. As i gave it gas it hesitated and then almost stalled then the check engine light illuminated just for a split second.

Background info:
The car has always been a pig on gasoline. See my other posts....
Has always had poor accelerating power and surges during accelerating
But idles smooth as a baby
Runs rich at idle as i can smell raw fuel
I have pp2000
RFV 2.0 petrol motor

Pp2000 tells me warning engine ecu fitted with r6e 5.2 bosch. Have no reason why it says this

Please helpImageImage
Any ideas would be grateful!

This is purely a guess, but it looks like your car 'knows' the fuel/air mixture is not correct.
During idling and low throttle operation, the engine runs in closed-loop mixture control, the ecu calculates how much fuel is needed to maintian the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio of about 15:1. It measures the fuel air ratio in the exhaust using the lambda sensor(s) - some cars have two or more.

I think your fault message indicates it has adjusted as much as it can, but the mixture is still wrong.
There are several possible causes, including:
faulty lambda sensor / wiring
incorrect fuel rail pressure
faulty injector(s)

Please also consider that it may be perfectly normal for your engine to generate this condition occasionally - the 'Intermittent fault' part of the description suggests it doesn't happen all the time. I know it's really difficult for you, but it would be good to know if someone else's car behaves in the same way.

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
