BIG PROBLEM!!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

BIG PROBLEM!!!

Post by peugeot30v6 »

My car has got a big problem. I was driving yesterday and suddenly the engine managment light abs warning and the stop light came on, then the speedometer stoped and then the revcounter stoped. Now the instrument cluster will not come back to normal. The climate control also comes on without the key being in. When the key is not in the ignition the climate control is on and the instrument cluster is also on with the stop light as well as the engine managment light and the abs. The milage had also gone back to 000000. I have had to disconnect the battery so it wont drain. What can I do?
The car drives fine. The radio and the MFD is not comming on either.

This sounds suspiciously like the 'water in driver's foot well' problem putting in an appearance.
Lift the carpet right back and inspect the connectors there for damage.

Removing the carpet is a very involved thing. What I did was remove the side trims, as you have in the pic, then removed the trim where the bonnet release is. Then to can wedge some wood etc in under the carpet to hold it up. I then set a fan heater in there for few hours to dry it out. Then you can tackle the wires....its a pain, trust me....I cut each side of the connectors, one by one, cut back to good wire, heat shrink sleeved each one and soldered them together. Took me about 4 hours, but I am not that good at it.
Next you need to find where the water is coming in. Mine was caused by blocked drains from the sunroof and the water dripped down all over the BSI, which doesnt help.
Hope this helps you and good luck.
By the way, all my crazy electrics were cured by this.

I have the exact same problem with my Coupe.

Entire dashboard went dead one day, nothing works except short light icon.
petrol reserve light constantly flashes, and dashboard remains to light even upon removing the key,but only few seconds.
Coupe forum folks told me about wires getting wet under drivers footwell.

How did you sort it out.

Well it took me about 3 hours trying to tackle the carpet and couldn't for the life of me get it to lift enough for me to see the wires. It is pretty wet under there and tried to dry it out, but no luck. The car is just going to have to sit in the driveway until I can get it to my mechanic.

This is how I got to them on my left-hooker viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15963&p=201473&hili ... pg#p201473 (half-way down the post from "while I had the battery off") I've no idea how much a right-hooker differs tho.
