Intermittent auto wipers

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Intermittent auto wipers

Post by peugeot30v6 »

When I turn my auto wipers on, everytime I turn the ignition back on I have to turn them off and on again. Maybe a problem with the stalk or something but they wont stay on when the ignition it turned off. What could it be?

They're supposed to do that. Saves them trying to operate if they're frozen solid to the screen, for example.

That is quite correct. Turning the ignition off interupts the sensor from the actuator and needs to be reset each time.

Its pretty annoying. The auto wipers are a bit of a hit and miss, they only come on if it is pouring down . I dont really notice if there on or not[emoji1]

In Peugeot Planet they've got something like 5 sensitivity settings. Or is it 3? Anyway, they can be adjusted. Mine work ok but I preferred the ones on my D8.

There are 3 settings in Planet - of which seem to make no difference at all to how they work... ( don't select the timed rear wiper in relation to blah blah.. option - the wipers go tits up.. )
Mine sweep okay in light rain, and go faster when the rain gets heavier so I guess they work fine.
If its a big problem, you can disconnect the sensor behind the rear view mirror and the wipers go back to normal ' delay ' wipers - but doing this means you lose your auto-headlight feature..

I like the auto headlights. I guess I will just have to live with it.

They are 'adaptive', if you let them operate on auto for a time they normally adjust reasonably well to suit the amount of water hitting the screen.
I like the way they wipe the screen immediately when deluged with spray from a passing truck. :cheesy:

I used to love that, the wipers would react before you thought to. The Volvo ones are shyte, you adjust the 'sensitivity' on the stalk :? why do you need that? it doesn't help one bit. I thought the Peugeot ones worked perfectly in comparison.

I too think they are great. I have noticed that when hitting the spray from a lorry I am overtaking in heavy rain, they seem to go faster than if I turn them onto high speed, but that could just be my imagination. I have always hated standard intermittents because they always seem to be either too often with consequent squealing from dry screen, or too slow and I end up using the flick wipe anyway.
