Mileometer/Tripdisplay Problems

Post by Old Smokey »

Hi Guys,
Driving around today in the 406 & mileage reading & trip display have
gone blank ! Idon,t know what,s wrong but i do have to hand a spare
set of clocks. It,s easy to change them over so if i put in the new clock
set what mileage will it read ? Is the mileage recorded in the ECU or
in the speedo head itself ? Anybody ?

It's not something daft like the backlight bulb simply dying is it? :)

I think the answer to that is both, and if you change the clocks the computer adds the mileage from the new clocks to the mileage in the car's ECU and you end up a very high reading

Then again I might have dreamed that....... :?

I have to agree, Id check the bulb before you do anything. This is very likely to be your problem.

its most likely the bulb, and Dai you are almost correct, if its a D9 then if you put a different set of clocks in then the BSi adds the current mileage to the mileage of the clocks fitted

Try shining a torch at it from a variety of angles at close range. If you can see the numbers it's definitely just the bulb and you can relax :)

Dash bulbs

Post by muffindell »

It's always the backlight bulbs that go in my experience. Mine used to go every 6 months or so, which got me wondering if there are different quality bulbs that last longer?
