Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

There is a strong possibility the key and car have lost compatibility, this can happen if the battery is disconnected without the proper procedure, is there a chiming noise if the key is left in the ignition with the drivers door open?

Does your friend have a 4 digit PIN code on a sort of credit card, somewhere in the owners manual/service history - you will need this to reset the key and car.

If not, the code is available on-line but for a price....

Power saving mode will go when the car starts.

Okay, no chime means the key and car have lost sync.

You will need the security PIN code for your car, otherwise members on here with PP2000 will be unable to access the menu to re-sync the car and key.

This code is available on-line, Goole 'vin to pin' or something like that, and when you have the code have a look at the members map to find a member near you that can help.

There are many people with the correct equipment on www.peugeotforums.com that can help too.
