Rear windows electric conversion

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Rear windows electric conversion

Post by Imissit »

How hard is it to convert my rear windows from manual to electric? And is the wiring usually allready there? :)

Is your car a D8 or D9?
It's certainly do-able, I fitted electric rear windows and electric wing mirrors to my first 406 (D8 LX) but be prepared with the soldering iron & heatshrink ;)
The biggest pain was getting additional wires through the door grommets; you'll need to do this if you want to control the rears from the drivers window controls.

You might be in luck in that case :)
I've never worked on a D9 so I can't talk from experience, you may have to get the windows enabled in the BSI as well.

Existing wires seem to be a bit hit or miss, your best bet is to have a door card off and see if it has spare wires.

If the car is a popular colour it might be worth changing the doors, there are plenty about on ebay.
