Re: My aircon has died
In other news, I have a 'summer cold', aka man-flu.
I thought I'd detected a whiff of exhaust inside the car a few times recently, now I'm having coughing fits, so I resolved to find the cause this evening.
I haz a loose injector.
Managed to tighten it up enough to stop the visible / audible leak for now, but couldn't remember what actually fits those screws. They don't look like Torx heads, more like regular hexagon keys, but 7mm is too big and 6mm too small. Anybody know for certain?

I've been looking for clues but I can't even find the injectors in Service Box

Re: My aircon has died
Crap, nothing in the repair manual Googling about I see lots of stuff about them loosening off on the 1.6HDi, they're an angular torque so you can keep tightening them until they snap...

Re: My aircon has died
They are definitely allen bolts, I did an injector washer on a friends 2.2Hdi last week - I can't remember the size but it was smaller than I thought...

Re: My aircon has died
I'm probably having a bit of brain fade. I know I changed the injectors on the original dogmobile and I didn't have any issues then.
I've a faint recollection of possibly using a torx bit in the socket set, which wasn't the right thing, but fitted well enough, (or maybe I'm hallucinating).
Last night I tapped a 7mm allen key into a depth of about 2mm and tightened them very gently. (The key was definitely too big to fit properly).
Anyway, the car has ceased to be a mobile gas chamber, idles more evenly, picks up more crisply.....
Isn't it amazing how we don't notice things deteriorating?

Re: My aircon has died
Because if it's very gradual we get used to it as it goes without noticing.
I much prefer clearing faults and immediately noticing an improvement, rather than fixing stuff to no appreciable difference.

The a/c's all back together, new condenser and lower refrigerant pipe joined onto the old one at the flexible behind the n/s headlight......

Re: My aircon has died
I haz aircon.
Leak test & re-charge was a very reasonable £30
Just hope it keeps going - forecast for Strasbourg, (where we're spending Wednesday evening/night) is 33 degrees.

Re: My aircon has died
You were right. I've now found the actual leak.Welly wrote:I'll just turn my egg timer.........
Another broken bracket located, this time the one holding the larger diameter pipe that carries the gas back to the compressor. Pipe's been rubbing on the broken bracket and has finally rubbed through the aluminium. Noticed the hiss as I climbed underneath to drain the engine oil.
I've split open a short piece of hose and clamped that round it with a hose clip. Seems to have stopped the leak and it still works, but for how long?
Not expecting it to hold as its the (pin)hole is on the outside of a sharp 90 degree bend.
(I'd link a diagram, but now service pox has thown in the towel too)!

Re: My aircon has died
Oh bumhats!
So much for the pressure* test* at the garage, let me guess who? ........
The a/c runs at about 35psi so your dirty fix might hold out, I hope.
Guess you need a new piece-o-pipe then, simply* add that to your list

Re: My aircon has died
It's still holding enough pressure to let the clutch operate - so I'm 'saving it' for tomorrow.
Booked on Eurotunnel at 9:40, hoping to reach Strasbourg in the early evening, pausing as we transit Luxembourg where diesel's €0.93/l. Looks like being a scorcher.
Guess it's a blessing Rufus is sitting this one out as Mrs Doggy would have been stressing about whether we could keep him cool enough, even with aircon.
