Hello,
Firstly let me say, this is my first 406, or peugeot that i've owned, being a volvo guy (owned over 25) I can say there's always been a bit of a stigma attached to the french cars and ive generally stayed away, but saying that, this car has done nothing but pleasantly surprise me. An ex-taxi she's had a hard life, now with 200k + miles on the clock I have taken ownership for a measly £150 (with full year's MOT and no advisories!) I have to say she drives spot on, despite being a bit of a mess.
I don't drive my car much (van driver all day everyday) this was just a bit of fun/project to keep me busy, i've decided to do a few bits to make it go a bit faster, from reading up it seems like the standard diesel protocol, remove EGR/cat/DPF and remap for a cheap and effective power gain.
So firstly i've purchased an MPPS ODB tool from ebay, it arrived today, installed on my laptop, and seems to work just fine, i was able to read the ECU (saves as a .bin file), is there anyone on the forum who can re-write it for a fee, or are there generic maps available to flash onto the ECU? i'm not looking to spend a fortune, as you'd imagine on a 150£ car. but i don't mind spending a bit on a custom map.
I know this may sound stupid, i'm really uncertain of how it works, so could use some advice, whatever map I get it must include EGR delete + catalyst delete as those are 2 thing's i'll definitely be doing.
My second question, regarding the catalyst /dpf deletion, i've read that you just drill the insides out and put it back together, how easy is this for a noob like myself, my understanding was that this was a sealed unit, and that it had to be cut open/re--welded back together, if anyone has a guide or information on this it would help me.
Any knowledge that would help a new owner out would also be appreciated, also in case it's needed, the car is the 2.0 HDi 110 (DW10ATED)
Regards, Matthew

Hi Matthew & welcome aboard.
Good to hear you're pleased with the 406, it's a very underated beast and is really hard to beat for comfort & value.
Particulary gratifying to hear these comments from a Volvo man - (there are one or two round here who have yet to repent).
The good news is your 110 almost certainly won't have a DPF.
Cats can get clogged and will affect response if they do. Most likely to affect something that does most of its miles round town.
Blanking the egr definitely improves low speed pick up, particularly on the transition from overrun to pulling.
Worth doing the standard service items - oil+filter/air filter and check for any boost leaks, (loose hoses and the like).
Beyond that, a remap's your next option. I believe there are now some cheap options out there.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I've had it nearly 4 years now, but here's an old post: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=19053&hilit=new+dogmobileLixah wrote:you have the 2.2 hdi? any pictures ? how does it compare to the 2,0?

Had a few upgrades:

Remapped to about 180bhp / 420Nm
On a recent trip to Germany it recorded over 130 mph and was still accelerating strongly -
but a high-pitched squealing noise from the passenger seat made me back off.

My mostly main road driving returns about 50mpg summer and 47/8 in the winter. (Last trip was 1800 miles, average 52.4 mpg and 54 mph).
It's obviously a lot quicker than a standard 110, but not as economical. I would guesstimate the 110 will give about 5 mpg more in equivalent use, perhaps a bit more.
The 110 can be fettled to give about 140 bhp with only software changes and most owners report improvements in drive-ability as well as more go.

getting someone from peugeotforums to do a remap for me, going to flash the ECU soon, just need to empty the cat.
I always buy super cheap/old cars with the intention of beating on them and abusing them, but it's just not im my nature, im a perfectionist, so i end up fixing every minor detail (at a stupid expense) then selling the car for practically 0 profit

oh well, at least i'm gaining car-ma, feels good to make something that was basically scrap, half decent again
