307 Comm2000 Ills

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

307 Comm2000 Ills

Post by Doggy »

Hi folks, I know it's not 406 related, but someone might have some relevant info....
My daughter's 57-plate 307 has developed an intermittent air bag / seat belts fault message. I spent several hours trying to resolve this yesterday, to no avail.
Via PP2K, I proved it's the steering wheel airbag circuit at fault, which almost certainly means a Comm2000 swap is needed.
Putting the VIN into Service box reveals it could be Pug part no.s 6242CC or 6242CY, both of which have the further reference 98 069 976 XT
Needless to say, there are none of these on fleabay at < £200.
I toyed with the idea of sending it for a repair, but since it doesn't have floppy stalk syndrome, I guess it would come back the same.
Service box implies 6242CC & 6242CY are unique to 307's, but 98069976XT cross-references to 308's without ESP
Her MOT's due early next month so I have to do something fairly quickly - any ideas folks?

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Could it actually be the airbag?

The ebay fixers don't all just deal with stalk impotency - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-206-3 ... SwzJ5XYosw worth a phone call?

But first, would it be worth powering it down and reseating all the connectors?

How annoying! with an impending MOT

Steve's advice seems a fair start, I can't add anything other than I hope you manage to clear the fault in time.

If the 307 dies indeed have ESP, then you need an ESP comms, otherwise as long as it's the same era and functions then replacement should be easy to source?
Saying that, 307 are a bit* hit and miss for electrickery...

Have you tried simply* testing the connectors on the airbag?

What was the actual fault?

Don't test the connectors to the airbag! They only need a few millivolts to fire

Thanks guys. I checked via PP2K & found it was complaining about the 'drivers high level airbag'
Then remove the airbag, unplugged / reseated all the connectors several times and managed to temporarily clear the fault.
Disconnecting the airbag without touching anything else brought the same fault message back every, ergo that's the culprit.
Unfortunately it's turning the steering that causes the fault to come back. That and asking Uncle Google seems to confirm it's the Comm, (2005, not 2000).
So far the cheapest 98069976XT replacement I've found is £180 exchange for this here: http://www.peugeotpartsforsale.com/peug ... 98069976xt

Still not brilliant but it's got to be an improvement. The biggest problem's going to be your daughter not having a car for a while. Speaking of which, any ideas how long?

Not an issue, you just pay a £25 exchange deposit that you get back when you send the old one.
I'll give it a day or so & if nothing else appears, give it a try.

Update. I didn't manage to get near this last week due to work commitments and the other 307 dying. Finally had the presence of mind to get a picture of the COMM 2005 unit on the car, which turns out to have a completely different part code from that ServiceBox reckoned was fitted.
It's actually a 96660140XT, not 98067796XT as I previously thought. This version seems much more common so I'm taking a punt on a 2nd hand one for < £60 delivered.

I have spoken to a couple of the people who repair them, I understand they can fix the floppy-stalk issue, but probably not the intermittent airbag rotary connector problem.
