number plate lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

number plate lights

Post by straggler »

Hi all,

Both my number plate illuminator bulbs have gone. Are the bulbs just the normal turn anti-clockwise to remove jobbies? Can't seem to shift them and don't want to be too rough in case they break.

Ta.

They're W5W capless push-in thingies.

Trick is getting the lamp unit out of the bodywork - on an estate it's easy if you remove the tailgate trim, guess it would be similar on a saloon. Once you get them out, you can carefully prise the clear cover off and change the lamp.

If it's been broken by previous attempts, the whole lamp unit is only about £3 from Peugeot.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

So the bulbs are just push fit? You don't need to turn them to remove them?

On the saloon the lamp unit is in the bumper. The covers come off easily, though, but not sure how to get the lamp holder itself off.

Bulb is definitely a W5W push-in

Older saloon has a different lamp assembly, (6340 87 £16.74 ea.) also fitted to early 406 coupe, 306, 106, 405, 605
Later ones have the common 6340 A5 £3.35 ea.
Dont know if they're interchangeable.

Nice one, cheers.

You wouldn't happen to know what size socket I need for the sump plug, would you (XUD engine)?

Can't get the effing bulbs out. Will look at how to get the holders out. Or just ignore it.
