MFD and BSI

When swapping a mfd, do you then have to use pp2000 to enable the cd changer so the mfd will 'see' it? I ask because the original (type with the two buttons, one either side of the screen. Don't know the correct model name, sorry) was continually losing its settings ie after setting time date etc, next time it was powered up it would reset back to the default settings..
Thinking it was terminal, in my haste I got a spare from the scrappy, installed it but nothing showing on the display. In a more rational fashion, I realised the problem was that there was no constant live power, hence why it wasn't holding its memory. Transpired the fuse was gone (F8 on the interior fuseboard - also explained why the boot light was absent) so replaced it and also the 3 x capless 12v 1.2w bulbs in the display. Powered it back up and the jobs a good'un. Replaced the three bulbs in the second mfd from the scrapper and that also burst into life.... except it didn't respond to the cd changer at all. Hence my question. Anyone come across this?

The MFD is programmable via the BSI (brightness, contrast, light background etc) and you need PP2000 to activate the CD changer port via the Stereo settings.

The MFD with the 2 buttons is a Type B, the one for shatnav with an infra red detector is a Type C and can be programmed with its remote control.
Both are interchangeable.

Good to know. Presumably, this means using the PP2000 to access the BSI settings also - or is there some other way?

Do you know, once you activate the CD changer port via pp2000, does the MFD 'remember' this so that it will be compatible if swapped to another car with a cd changer? As I said yesterday, the original MFD in mine was responding and seeing the cd changer but the one I acquired to swap it for would not. Therefore, if the BSI in my car already had the cd changer activated, I would assume it must be MFD that needs telling and then it would 'remember' - is that the case?

Thank you for clarifying the two types of MFD too. I saw a couple of the type C versions in two other cars at the scrappies but left them alone as they were not what I was after. Out of curiousity though, I noticed when I removed my type B that there was an additional plug there alongside the one which mates into the type B. What might this be for - sat nav control maybe? Looks like this (I'm referring to the grey multiplug below and behind the black one.)

Hmm, to be honest its nothing I've really thought about.

I guess if the scrapyard car hadn't been fitted with a CD changer, then I the BSI hadn't programmed the MFD to accommodate one - easy to sort with PP2000

Don't worry about the spare connector, all my 406s had them and they weren't plugged into anything...
