406 Hdi auto lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 Hdi auto lights

Post by PeterN »

My auto lights have suddenly stopped working with the result that i find myself driving in adverse conditions with no lights on. If you press the button on the stalk it comes up 'auto lights active' but they aren't, the auto wipe also seems to have packed up. Any suggestions?

Thanks Peter

Friday 13th?
Early Haloween?

Suspect your BSI has spontaneously unconfigured some options for you.

Try a BSI reset or PP2K
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I was going to try a reset but didn't want to have to set the clock again. :frown: I will try it, thanks.

Alternatively, both are controlled by the same sensor, the one at the top of the windscreen...

Thanks that had occurred to me, could be a supply failure, I will try the course of least resistance first and do a reset.

I seem to remember the wipers will revert to a basic intermittent program if the sensor goes wrong.

Yes, they work OK on manual but just not on auto.

I accidentally 'unconfigured' auto wipers just after getting my current 406 while enabling the auto rear wiper.
The front wipers then didn't work at all in the intermittent/auto position.
IIRC you can have auto, normal intermittent or nothing at all.
