Remote locking ceased

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Remote locking ceased

Post by PeterN »

My 01 406 GXL estate has suddenly lost the remote locking, it was fine until I left it parked up for about a month. I have fitted a new battery to the fob and tried the various reset suggestions but no go. I have a PP2000 in fact I have two but can't get either of them to connect to the car. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Peter

Corrupted electrics, due to lack of power / standing :(
That's the very reason I decided to fit a new battery to my coupe with a battery conditioner connected :?

Worked for me, good luck with yours, you could try the bsi reset

Tried that thanks, no success. I think I will leave well alone, the remote doesn't work on my other one either and other than in a dark car park I can usually find the keyhole.

I recently bought a 206 SW for my wife, the remote didn't work on that either, the key fob had fallen to bits and was filthy inside. I bought a refurb kit off ebay for less than a fiver which consisted of a new case, battery and two tact switches, one on my key was broken, I fitted a new one after a bit of brain surgery, cleaned it up and fitted the new battery and was rewarded with a 'clonk' when I pressed the button, marvellous!

That's a result! :cheesy:

I think it was Doggy (apologies if it wasn't) had some problems hooking up PP to a car, turned out to be a blown fuse. I think PP is your best bet anyway, Loosing central locking after a battery misdemeanour is common.

I think it's the fuse for the headlight washers that is shared with the obd port.....
Hope you get it sorted, although I never did

Buy a Volvo with Ford central locking, that way you won't be able to lock it properly and therefore don't need to worry about it.

Would it really be a problem if cars were left largely unlocked?

Nah, they'd be just like bicycles in Amsterdam: take one, use it, throw it in the canal.

Correct young man! Trouble is the OBD port fuse no./location varies from car to car.

Later full-mux 110 & 2.2 HDi's use fuses F4 + F5 in the engine fusebox, (my problem was F4)
Fairly sure mjb's V-reg. 3.0 coupe used F10,
It's usually always a 10A fuse, can't be too hard to check them all
