Engine management light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Sadly, it's just a generic message saying that something is wrong.....
It could be almost anything, so a session with PP2000 will certainly help, otherwise it's expensive guessing.
Where are you based?

A laptop with PP2000 is cheaper than 2 visits to Peugeot for a diagnostic, plus you can use it on other people's cars once you've got experience with it...
It's a pain to set up, but I use mine quite often - it stays in the boot and I charge it up the day before a diagnostic session.

Cliffk,

Sorry for the late reply, I don't come on here very often.
I am also in the middle of decorating our lounge

Don't know if it helps but I've got pp2k & a 2002 2.0 hdi 110 with a reasonable idea of what I'm doing.

Your very welcome to pop round for a diagnosis check :)

Hi

thanks for the offer you are not too far from me so could be a good plan, pretty busy myself over the next 2 weeks though,

I have ordered a pp2k and am awaiting its arrival from China as I have 2 406's 2001 exec HDI and 2003 GLX HDI so will probably use it, I also have an old laptop running XP so I think that will work.

Not sure if I will be able to configure / use the pp2k properly though so any advice / links to tuition would be helpful.

Look on YouTube for a set up guide - they are done in real time so you kind of know what to expect..
Getting experience is trial and error though, just take your time to go through the menus and options.

Looked at the you tube tutorials should be able to follow that, it looks like when you use Pp2000 you have to select your ecu from a list, how do I know which one I have?

It should find it on its own accord.....
If not, you can have a peek at the ECU in the engine bay - pop the cover off and slide the ECU up to reveal a label on the side.

It should only ask you to choose the fuel, (petrol/diesel), then the engine variant.
(2.2's are 4HX, 2.0's are either RHY or RHZ if I remember correctly.
GM's right as well there are two possible ecu's 2.2's 110's and older 90's have a Bosch EDC15C2, some newer 90's have a Siemens SID something or other

I any case the engine code is characters 6-8 of the VIN code, (Mine is VF33E4HXF81326206 for example).

I actually did that from memory - should I be worried?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
