Hi guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster from down-under. Thank you all for the wealth of information so far!
My car won't start It appears my ECU has failed as I can no longer communicate with it via pp2000. I've been told that I need to replace the ECU for a ridiculous price but I'm hoping to save some money by locating one myself.
Is this just a matter of buying an old ecu and plugging it in? I've read that I might need a matching ECU/BSI/key set but most sellers in the UK are selling ONLY the ECU.
The ECU number is a XFZ Bosch MP7.0 9625552680
It's a 1999 406 v6 Manual D8
Usual practice as far as I know is to buy the set - ecu/bsi/key(s). I've had a quick look and haven't found anything suitable offered for sale in the UK, but there is one advert for someone selling a complete 1999 3.0 coupe for parts - maybe this would work? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-Peugeot ... d2be169a6f
If you haven't already done so, check out the coupe forum as the 3.0 engine was more common in those vehicles and potentially more have survived. http://www.406coupeclub.org/

Hi, welcome.
There is a fuse for the obd port - worth a check...
And the ECU should be the same, the only real differences are in the BSI menu regarding window dropping, auto close windows etc - easily rectified with PP2K.

Probably, but not for certain. The engine ecu uses a different data connection to the other devices, (the 'K' line I believe) so its possibly also a different fuse. Fuseboard layouts vary so it's definitely worth thoroughly checking every 10A fuse in the engine bay fusebox, or all the small fuses for that matter.
May be a long shot but could save you money/embarrassment like 'someone I know'
