Wet carpet LHD

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Wet carpet LHD

Post by Puck »

Hi. I've looked at the threads about the wet carpet thing. People talk about the " driver's side " meaning the right hand side if you're sitting in the car. My 406 is left hand drive. and the driver's side , left hand side, footwell carpet is soaked. Do those vulnerable electrical connections change sides depending on lhd or rhd or are they always under the right hand side carpet ? I ask because it's been chucking it down here in Portugal , my left side carpet is soaked and I'm having a couple of minor electrical problems.

Here too, suffering the torrential rain...

Interesting question, I had a look into my SEDRE system and it looks like the footwell connectors are indeed at the driver side, whether LHD or RHD:

From my experience, the wet footwell is caused by water which flows along the driver door window and then leaks through the splash guard behind the door panel. The splash guard is a white foam type sheet that you see when you remove the door panel. It must not be torn and it must be sealed to the door metal at least at the bottom and sides. When doing repairs inside the door, the seal often gets damaged. Best way to test if it is watertight is to open the door, put a screwdriver between the window and the rubber seal and then pour water along the created opening. If all is well you see the water coming out from the drain holes, not from the bottom of the door panel.

No, this is the Netherlands. Wet and cold are the only two flavours...
