immobiliser Problem...

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

immobiliser Problem...

Post by gRoberts »

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a 406 lx which is going cheap due to a problem with the immobiliser, we think.

Basically, he types in the code, and it goes green but as soon as he turns the key the light turns red and the car fails to start.

Any idea's on whether this is an expensive repair? I've always loved the 406 since seeing it in Taxi (French Film).

Hello and Welcome 8)

There is a way to deactivate the immobiliser, but I'm not sure if it needs to be working correctly for this to work. I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows more about it.

Hope you can get it sorted, you'll love the 406.

Cheers

Taxi is great, have you seen 2 & 3 too? They've just released 4, but that's got a 407 in it.....

Yes I have Taxi 1, 2 and 3 on DVD.

Although I feel that Taxi 2 and 3 are no where as good as Taxi 1.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hello, and welcome 8)

I have been having some immobiliser related problems recently. Can I ask if the car is petrol or diesel?

Usually when the correct code is typed in, the light goes green and you can start it as normal. You say that when the key is turned the light goes red? This could be a faulty solenoid. I was having a simular problem about 2 weeks back. I was advised by the master mechanic, James to bypass the keypad by connecting the fuel stop solenoid direcly to an ignition feed. I don't know if you're handy with the old tools, but the keypad bypass operation took me about 3 hours to do. More info about that in this thread.

If the 406 is cheap enough, and you're not too bothered about having the keypad working, then I would buy it. The 406 is a great everyday work horse of a car. If well serviced, then you'll get an easy 200k out of the diesels.

Isn't there a key sequence to disable the immobiliser though? C1Ccode or something? Maybe I imagined it... :?

From what i have read there is a way to disable the keypad so that the key fob performs the authorisation.

It may be a no go, as i've seen a 1.8 GLX for £200 which looks in better condition. Why are these cars so bloody cheap?

Oh yeah! yes, you could cross your fingers and try the procedure below:

If the car starts, just make sure you get it at the price it was advertised :cheesy:

I don't know why they are cheap. I suppose it's because they can be a headache at times, but once you get to know them they'll treat you well. (Not sure if Welton will agree with me on that) I liked my D8 406 so much that I bought a D9 with 45K on the clock with FPSH for £2900. I just hope that one doesn't cause me much hassle.

The one i've found is listed as a 1.8 GLX but appears on the insurance web site as a rapier.

Again from what I have read the rapier is only available in blue yet the pictures are red.

I've gotta painful wait until tomorrow morning to find out whether the price is correct.

Ok because it's a petrol, try the C1C with the keypad and then if you do manage to get it started, Once started open the fuse cover with a 10p, as shown below and then unplug the keypad while the car is started. This will then eliminate the use of the pad so you won't need to use it again. The car should start and stop as normal with the pad disconnected.

this has to be a d8 as it has a keypad immobiliser, yet the rapier was only a d9 and it was only available in blue
this car sounds a bit dodgy
and a word of warning, the 1.8 is veeeeery sloooooow

Unfortunately both are no longer available. The £200 GLX/Rapier was actually a misprint and is actually £1200.

The original car in question sold for 90.99 (1.8 LX). I wasn't really sure so I didn't bother.

Although thank you all for your help.
