Wiper relay

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Wiper relay

Post by JimH240 »

Anyone know where the (front) wiper relay is located on HDi90 Rapier pl??

My wipers are doing strange things. Switching off by themselves and parking in any old position! Fault is intermittent.

Yes. I have rain activated facility on the wipers though ever since I had a new screen about 2 yrs ago (with the correct bit around the top for rain detection) that facility never seemed to operate any differently in light /heavy rain.

most likely the rain sensor is faulty as this tells the wipers where to park and what speed to move at even when in manual mode

Thanks. But the problem first happened when it was just working on speed 1 and decided to suddenly stop and park up in the middle of the screen. If i flick the switch again to Speed 1 (or2) wipers restart, go for a while and them park up again any old position.

My first intent is to change the relay to see if that solves it, but i don't know where the relay is located. My Haynes book doesn't mention it.

Hi there, I just joined the forum as it helped me a lot when I was figuring out how to fit a leather interior!

Just quick note about the Auto wipers, When I got my car the auto wipers didnt work at all (just worked as normal on INT). Took the rear-view mirror off to have a look at the sensor. Found out the reason that it stopped working was when the windscreen was replaced at some point, the mounting for the rain sensor on the windscreen have not been attached securely and the sensor wasn't "sticking" properly to the 'screen. When I re-attached the mountings and fit the sensor worked perfectly ! :cheesy:

Sorry if I am ranting, but this is my first post!!

Rain sensor was found to be all connected ok, but i noted that when switched on it flashes away like a strobe light.
Thinking this a bit strange, I got a mate to switch his 406 on and his rain sensor doesn't stobe.

Thinking then that the rain sensor must be faulty got one off a parts seller on ebay for £25 (rather than new at £103 at dealers). Connect up and this one strobes too!. Assuming both sensors can't have the exact same fault, the sensors must be ok and reason for the stobe lies elsewhere. And my wipers are still parking up when and where they feel like it.

Any ideas anyone?

I think the stop switch for the wiperarms is built into the motor assembly itself, think you have to replace it as one complete assembly, could be wrong though :?

On my D8 the wipers were bouncing back up from the bottom on the screen to settle about 4" too high.Thought this was the wiper motor, got 1 from the scrappy for £20 and it still did it.Off down to the stealers and a new relay is £40,no thanks i said off down to the scrappy and found 1 and hey presto it works! The relay on mine is a black relay above the fuse box in the car on the right hand side(i think there are 3 in total)I believe the new ones are blue in colour

Yes Jim if you remove the felt from above the peddles you will see some relays. The one 4 the wipers is a little black number just above the bonnet release. On mine anyway,if you pull it out(its very stiff)your wipers will not work at all, aparantly these relays have an inbuilt timer hence the price!! By the way a lot of citreons also have this relay as do some oteher pugs
