Problem i have guys, is that i have just jumped in my HDi this morning, (2.2 HDi 2001) and for some reason the gauge has jumped to 3/4 full when i know for a fact that it is just below full!!! Can someone give a rough indication of where i can find the sensor for this, or possible what the route of the problem could be???
think the sender is in the fuel tank... have had a similar
thing on mine ... looked at gauge after a run turned it off
and later when started did not go back to original place..
just took it that it was catching up...

Make your mind up man
The sender unit is part and parcel of the lift pump in the tank which is not a very nice job to get at. I don't believe it's entirely possible to replace through the cover plate under the back seat but someone here might know better?
It might just be worth a quick looky at the wires coming out of this unit under the seat to make sure they're all ok and plugged in nicely.

I remember someone on here got stuck trying to get the pump out of the stupid hole under the seat and ended up having to drop the eggsauce and the tank

are you sure you wasnt parked on a steep slope, where i park outside my house is at quite and angle and if park facing one way i have lots more fuel than i should and so forth
but welly is correct the fuel pump is integral with the sender so really aint worth changing till the pump fails

My 2.2 HDi has done the same as yours a couple of times (twice in fact). The first time, I had half a tank, parked on my brother's steep drive, when I reversed off and drove away, the gauge was stuck on 3/4. Another time, it stuck on half.
On both occaisions, filling the tank above the level that the gaue is stuck on solved the problem.
Both occaisions, I used Tesco diesel, not my usual esso. I don't know if the extra cleaning agent is cleaning the lubrication from the gauge.

Aye. My tank level meter thingy is located in the front of the tank so reads low to the tune of about 1/5 tank when the car's pointed uphill and high when pointing downhill. It's a pain because it'll mask a days worth of fuel
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Filled the car up today, fuel light was lit and needle was just dropping onto the red. However I managed to get 71litres of diesel into the car befor cut off, so whats going on there? I always thought the tank was 70lts, taking into account the needle reading it should of taken around 65lts - any ideas?
