FAULTY ALTERNATOR?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

FAULTY ALTERNATOR?

Post by ed209 »

My battery light has today started to glow permanently, but only faintly!? Is this a sign of a new alternator needed? I had a new battery fitted about 3 months ago, so i think thats fine!

Any advice appreciated

Thanks for the tip.
I have just put the meter on it and had a reading of 11.9v with the engine running and lights and heaters switched on etc. Definately a new one needed

Looks like the engines got to come out to get the alternator out...no room to slide the bolts out! that is a fab idea, nice one Peugeot!!

Managed to get the alternator of with help from a bottle jack and a jemmy to shift the engine over a tad!! phew....only to find
the reason for refilling the power steering pump every now and again....bearings and seals shot!!

What a day I am having, and has left me with decisions to make, given the price of both pump and alternator (£400 new) , and the overall condition of the car, I think its time to send her off to the scrappy  She has been like an old friend, but she has started to cost me more money than she is worth

Guess what i am after next....................................thats right, another 406 :D

I take it all back, she's going back on the road.

After some reflection, and a touch of the D9's, I just cannot let my old faithful go to rot for the price of a new pump and alternator. Been the best car I have ever had she as, and I miss her dearly
