car alarm

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Post by andrew1608 »

i have a rapier 2001 2ltr, i know the car have deadlocks, but this may seem an odd question but how can i set off my alarm , without damaging the car as i am never heard the alarm go off, i want to check the alarm does work, does anyone know if there is a way to test it. I have had the car nearly 3 yrs and it's has never gone off this is a good thing obviously but i have no idea of what it sounds like, can anyone help.

Had mine going the other night when I was "testing" the deadlocks for a thread on here. Now there is some contradiction in the way the deadlocks work - on my 51 plater, first press of the big button on the remote locks and deadlocks the car, second press within a few seconds deactivates the deadlocks (but apparently not the alarm). Small button unlocks it. So while testing the deadlocks I sat in the car, pressed the big button, tried the door, no joy, then pressed the big button again, tried the door again, door opens, alarm goes off :o frantic button jabbing until it shuts up :cheesy:

Having just purchased a 406 that had been sitting in a garage since April, and having to charge the battery, id say,

Making sure you have the radio code and know how to enter it (made that mistake and had to wait 30mins before it let me enter it again), disconnect the battery, make sure the car is already unlocked, now reconnect it, this will activate the alarm, now open the door with out pressing your key fob, the alarm should sound, or like me, have flashy headlights but no sound.

i take it yours was not a mk 2 because with the mk 2 one the stero is not coded as such, i have the mk2 with cd player and i can take mine out and it does not need code apparently it knows the car chassis number somehow, anyway i have the stereo out of the car when phone kit was installed and first thing i did was to check on the code, although i did previously have a 306 and i got the code from the dealer who originally sold the car for no charge.

Yep, mines a MK1, not sure what all this D8 and D9 stuff is about, is that MK1 and Mk2 respectively?

It probably checks with the ECU so doesn't need a code.

Well I'm upgrading from a Citroen Xantia 1.9TD, and with them it was engine codes lol XUD and the like.

Have to admit though, I'm loving the comfort of the 406 and its leather seats. still, least i don't have to wait for the suspension to raise when i start it now.

Good thing was, i didn't really need any time to find out where the lights / horn / spots and indicators were. as they are the same stalks in mine as my old Xantia had.

Suppose its a bit late now to try and find out if your alarm is working.

On the D8 (Mk1) there is a keyswitch in the boot that mutes the siren on the alarm.

D8 and early D8 set & deadlock car with the remote (big button then little button) then unlock it with the key. That should give you an idea of what the alarm sounds like. I changed the battery in my remote -- did not work till it was reintroduced to the car.

Jump in press the alarm mute button and start the engine within 10 seconds to kill the alarm if you remote does not work.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Not on the estate... or at least not on mine...
