Central Locking - not locking !!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Central Locking - not locking !!!

Post by bluegnat2000 »

Hi

Problem with the central locking. Press the fob and the doors lock then unlcock. Sounds like a barrel turning the unturning from the drivers door. I've changed the battery in the fob and it still works fine with the key.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My guess is that the car thinks one of the doors is open. Check the door switches.

Thanks for that but today the car wont even lock with the key, seems like its jammed but after a bit of a wiggle with the key I can make the key turn a full 360 degrees. Still not locking just turns and turns. Must be something snapped, any ideas appreciated, cheers

No spinning locks is a common quirk, it's an anti theft feature that works so effectively that it even keeps the car's rightful owner out  Doesn't nescessarily mean anything's broken. Squirt some wd40 in there then stick the key in and jiggle it about a bit.

In the mean time, can you lock it from the passenger side?

The thing about the car locking then unlocking when you use the remote might be another of these "security features". If one of the doors isn't closed fully the car won't lock by remote. Open and slam each door in turn, and if that still doesn't work check the door switches.

I have sinking feeling they're actually in the locks...

Check the locks work properly first, before you go ripping the door panels off!

Just thought I'd update you all, if you wanted to know !!

Sprayed some WD40 in the lock , slammed all the doors shut and its now working again. Not sure if its the long term solution but it'll do for now. Its 7 years old with 165000 on the clock so I'm not going to buy new locks for it anyway.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
