Remote Key from ebay

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Remote Key from ebay

Post by ukharper »

Got a key from ebay, exactly the same as my original with the chip inside & good battery. Was hoping to use it as a spare remote key(changing the blade & everything)
Peugeot dealer say`s these can be programmed once only, so cannot be matched to my car- can anyone confirm this, or are they just trying it on for a new key(don`t think so....)?

depends on what style key you have, all D8 keys are only compatable with the original car, the early D9's (non MUX) keys are the same, but the late square key with the chrome peugeot lion on the back can be programmed, you will need another transponder chip though as the car will not start, and you can only buy these with a new key and they cant be programmed

i have twice bought a spare key on ebay which had the remote on it, first time was with a 306 i was at the dealer for about an hour and they simply go to the computer and get the transponder code and then the spare key is programmed in and tested. Secondly i got my 406 over 3 years ago but i only got the 1 key with a transponder and a second key with no transponder in it,so i went on ebay and got another key, and simply i opened the casing and put my key from my spare into the new casing and then went to dealer and again got the dealer to recode the transponder on the spare so i have now got two idential keys, I only now find the deadlock buton on one key does not work soiwill get another 2 button key from ebay and switch the blade and circuit board over simply as that.
