No wipers, f+r, no centrel locking... all failed at once

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

No wipers, f+r, no centrel locking... all failed at once

Post by itchy »

t's W reg 2000 model. I have checked the the 3 fuseboards and only found one 30 amp fuse gone in the tray under the main board under the steering wheel, so replaced that, and still nothing. It was between two 15amp fuses on the left side of this small box.

Also the interior light doesn't come on with the doors open, unless the key is in the ignition.

I still have all working lights, indicators horn etc etc.... just my c/l, wipers front and back and int light faults all came at once. All worked fine a month ago when I bought it!

Any ideas? Or has anyone got a link to a picture of the fuseboards with the correct fuses and labels for what they are for as I can't risk driving it to get a haynes cause if it rains I'm rogered! (not had the car long and wondering if something has been over rated fuse wise and subsequently done a relay or something instead).

Cheers

Rich.

I'm looking at d9 Haynes, no common fuses but they're all connected to the infamous IBS.. sorry, BSI. If your car had BSI (not sure if yours is comm2000 ), you could try checking the connectors - according to the notoriously inaccurate Haynes the common one between interior lights, f/r wipers and central locking is 26be (26 pin, blue)

What Is BSI? I've only ever owned the likes of 205, 309's and 405's before this peugeot!
Oh, the heated rear window has stopped working also. :?

Where would I be Likely to find that plug? Or is it plugged directly into the fuseboard?

Thanks for the information so far, much appreciated. :)

BSi - Body Systems Interface, more commonly known as Built-in Systems Interface, its basically a computer that controls everything electrical in your car, and all D9's were fitted with them, COMM's or not
it does sound like its failed

That's me told  I'm not even 100% on where the damn thing is, Though I do know it's right near the fuse panel in the dash (I'm not touching the one on mine!) And I still reckon you should go for the connector, if all things are indeed on one plug then there's a fair chance this is your problem.

Then you'll know whether to panic or not.

Thanks for all the help guys.

After reading that reset procedure, it states 'Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds'. I don't have a remote key for this car. Should I have one? Or did some come without rcl?

Cheers :)

Anyone? If I go get a remote from a scrappy, will I be able to recode it to my car as I don't have a remote to use with the reset procedure!

That last bit with the remote key is like the key coding procedure. I assume that without the remote locking you can skip that and the remote lock test.

You could try a quick chat with the local mechanics.
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

The BSI went on the wife's old 206. Took out the wipers, central locking and the indicators. The stealer relieved us of nearly £400 to fix it. :(  :(

Oh right, I'll have to give the reset a go tomorrow when I have some light!

I assume if the bsi is faulty, I can't nab one from a scrapped 406? if they're coded, can they be reset anyway, like old stereos could be if slung in the freezer overnight?!

I've just been trawling through old posts (still learning...) and came across this thread about finding the BSI. Make an old man happy & check that connector :)

I can't get to it enouigh to see how the connector comes out. I've released the BSi from it's cradle, but it wont come out far enough to be able to see what holds that blue connector in. There seems to be a black clip or lever that holds the plug in.... this is now the part that is causing me greif!

After playing with the bsi connections, checking every fuse in every board, and trying the reset procedure on the BSi a week ago, nothing changed. So I booked it in with Pug to get a diagnostic done so I was certain that it was this that needed fixing....

Well as I couldn't drive it, it had been sat there for a week. So I started it up this morning as it's booked there for today, and hey presto everything works.

I still took it in to get them to see if they can recall any fault codes etc..... but why would it be so intermittent?

Yup 'twas intermittant on the wife's car too. It was knackered when I delivered it to the dealer but was behaving properly when they first tested it, luckily it all went wrong again during the test so they couldn't accuse me of having a fertile imagination
